Sharing Stories

Our readers may remember Colby Simonson from his art work in a previous edition. Colby recently started fifth grade at Southside School in Houlton, where he is fully included. Last spring his teacher asked the class to write an essay on their heroes. Many students selected sports stars and other famous people. Others selected Colby! Here is his story-and theirs. Thanks to Jo-Ellen Merry, fourth grade teacher, the students, and their parents, for sharing their stories.

Barbara, My Hero

by Colby Simonson

My hero is Barbara. She, taught me to talk. Her way to talk is to facilitate. I love her. She is a speech therapist. Barbara is very good.

My hero is Colby Simonson. Colby is trusting. He's nice when you want him to do stuff he'll do it, but in a matter of seconds. Whenever you need a hug, he's there to give you a big one. Colby likes to play outside in the winter and the summer. It doesn't matter. Colby is really loving. Colby is really smart and really cool. I wish Colby was related to me. I like him a lot. He is my best friend. I hope he likes what I am saying about him. Colby likes to watch Muppet Babies. He likes to play Nintendo and ride the snowmobile. Colby likes everybody. I wish Colby could come to my house.

THAT'S ONLY ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I WANT COLBY FOR MY HERO. COLBY IS THE BEST HERO.

Hero

Colby Simonson is my hero. Colby is trusting. He isn't mean like other people. Colby is gentle, funny, and athletic. Colby is fast and strong. I think a hero is somebody you can trust, somebody who is smart. There are different kinds of heros ones that can fly and ones that can do super moves. By my judging I think Colby would make a good hero. Colby likes to get new presents. Even though you might not think Colby would be a good hero, he would be a good friend. Colby is my hero and he always will be.
Cool
Over-
Lovable
Best hero
Yeah, Colby!!!!!!

My Hero

by Rachel Sewell

My hero is Colby Simonson for one reason. if I am sad, when Colby comes I always have to smile because he just makes me so happy. Colby is my hero because he taught me how to accept people the way they are, no matter if they are blind, deaf, or can't talk like Colby. Colby is a good friend and there is nothing in the world like a good friend. Colby is friendly, fast, and he is lovable. Colby is starting to talk even better than when I met him. I can believe that Colby can do anything if he tries, and believe me, he tries.

Yeah Colby!!
