A Welcome from the Editor
Welcome to Fostering Access, Communication and Technology Supports (FACTS), a newsletter designed to disseminate information on augmentative and facilitated communication and assistive technology as a critical component of the goals of one of the Center’s newest projects, Augmentative, Assistive and Facilitated Communication: Building the Capacity of Maine Schools to Realize the Learning Results for Students with Severe Communication Impairments. This project, funded by the Maine Department of Education, is designed, in part, to address the need for qualified speech/language personnel in our schools.
Many of you were readers of Facilitated Communication in Maine...An Update. Because our training and technical assistance efforts have broadened to include the range of augmentative communication strategies, including facilitated communication, and assistive technology to address the needs of students with severe communication impairments, we recognized the need to broaden our dissemination activities as well and, thus, our newsletter.
We hope you enjoy the expanded focus of this newsletter. We would love to hear from you. Please let us know if there is information you would like us to share or issues you would like addressed.
