New Resource for Exploring Intervention Options

Developed by Deb Thornton and Martie Kendrick, students of the TOP Early Intervention Graduate program at The University of Maine, Autism Intervention Options (AIO) is an Internet discussion group created to:
  • Provide information for parents and professionals about a variety of intervention options for young children with autism.
  • Increase awareness of developmental and other intervention options.
  • Offer a means for parents and professionals to network informally regarding these interventions.
While the moderators are particularly interested in developmental approaches to treatment—which are more easily embedded into inclusive settings—interventions considered for discussion are not limited to developmental alternatives.

Discussions in the group focus on interventions identified in a survey of early childhood and early intervention professionals as being of high interest. Each month one intervention is the focus, and research reports are posted to the Internet group. One week following the publication of each post, there is an opportunity to join the moderators in the AIO chat room to discuss and reflect upon the researched topic or other subjects of interest. For more information and to join the group, visit: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aio/
