Television Campaign Targets Awareness

Maine’s Infant Toddler Child Care Initiative, through the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Child Care and Head Start (OCCHS), recently announced the completion of the first draft of the Maine Infant Toddler Learning Guidelines and the launch of a public service television campaign entitled, “Simple Moments.” Both the learning guidelines and the public service announcements (PSA) seek to raise awareness about the importance of high-quality, inclusive early learning experiences for children in the first three years of life.

In 2003, Maine was awarded a mini-grant from the National Infant & Toddler Child Care Initiative at ZERO TO THREE, a project of the Child Care Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services. This initiative is designed to support State and Territory Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) administrators in their efforts to effect system-wide improvements in infant and toddler child care, such as Maine’s new PSA campaign. Debra Rainey, an early childhood research associate at CCIDS, has been a member of the initiative team since its inception and has advocated for quality inclusive infant toddler child care for all children in Maine.
