News and Notes...from the Consumer Advisory Committee

At the February 14th meeting of the Consumer Advisory Council, we welcomed several new members including:
Gail Fanjoy
Jonathan Heeren
Helen Holmes
Jan Koppenhofer
Avery Olmstead
Rayma Scofield
Deb Twomey
Beth Woodbury

Since that time, Donald Trites, newly appointed Program Manager for the Division of Mental Retardation has joined us as well. We enthusiastically welcome each of these individuals who represent consumers, families, and professional associates. Programs of the UAP touch the lives of individuals in many ways. Thinking of friends, families and colleagues in my own circle, I am impressed by the impact of, for instance, facilitated communication and person centered planning in enabling individuals to identify, communicate, and pursue their personal aspirations. As we prepare for a person centered planning meeting with one gentleman, he has been overwhelmed by looking back to his first meeting one year ago. He is now celebrating new direction in his life and many successes!

Throughout ongoing challenges and uncertainties faced by the UAP at the funding level, the energies of all involved have continued to focus on the recognition and support of individuals. Technical assistance, outreach education, and supports reach to all corners of the state as we learn together of the diverse paths toward self-fulfillment. If you would like to learn more about the Center, please do not hesitate to contact us.
