...from the Consumer Advisory Committee
On June 12, the full membership of the CAC and several staff of the UAP met for our annual retreat. Dick LePore, with long time roots and friendships in Maine, and vast experiences across the country as a leader in supporting individuals with disabilities, facilitated. We reviewed the original goals of the UAP and the Center's work over its first four years.
It was particularly impressive to recognize how supports through
the UAP have reached into the homes and communities of Maine through
LEARNS, Self Advocacy, Positive Supports, Facilitated Communication,
Early Childhood, Person Centered Planning and other projects and
programs of the Center. In order to look towards the future, the CAC
broke into workgroups to generate goals in each of our areas of
concentration, then came back together for discussion and refinement.
Specific goals and timelines for the next phase of the UAP will be
reflective of these energies and therefore reflective of the vision
of individuals with disabilities, their families and communities of
support.
