"Cultural Competence in Maine"
This presentation was developed to educate Maine
preventionists about the current peer reviewed cultural competence
literature; based on broader concepts of cultural competence that go
beyond race, ethnicity and gender. Through this presentation, our
hope is to provide Maine preventionists with a new lens through
which to view cultural competence in ways that make it relevant to
their work in our state.
"Designing Accessible Presentations of Data"
Every day, Maine preventionists design presentations
of data and information in order to support positive health results
and minimize the negative consequences of illness and addiction for
Maine citizens. Because of research supporting the predictive
associations among health literacy and positive health outcomes, the
importance of equality of access to and comprehension of health
information cannot be understated.
In this presentation, Maine preventionists are
introduced to current and immerging design literature; reviewing the
broad concepts of usability, human centered design, universal
design, and technical conventions of access for print and digital
media. Through this presentation, Maine preventionists will develop
a basic understanding of how to design accessible, engaging, and
professional presentations of data and information using the popular
tools of Adobe (PDF), Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
