Maine Employment Curriculum


The Maine Employment Curriculum Maine Employment Curriculum logo

The Maine Employment Curriculum (MEC) is designed to build the capacity of community rehabilitation providers to enhance and promote meaningful career options for individuals with disabilities in Maine by ensuring that job coaches and employment specialists have knowledge and skills in best practice employment supports. Successful completion of specified modules leads to Employment Specialist or Job Coach certification.

Funding Source:

The project is funded by Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adult Mental Health Services and Office of Cognitive & Physical Disabilities in collaboration with the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, Maine Department of Labor.

Funding Period:

This project has been funded since July 2002. The current funding is for July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009.

The Maine Employment Curriculum can be used to fulfill the requirement for a Vocational Aspects of Disability course towards a Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician (MHRT/C) certification. In addition, an individual who has completed the Maine Employment Curriculum for Employment Support Personnel meets the MaineCare requirement for Certified Employment Specialists on ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) teams. Completion of Maine Employment Curriculum meets staff training requirements for qualified staff through the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services In-State Accreditation process, as well as State CARF standards for qualified staff.
