Social Interaction Skills
The teacher of the visually impaired along with parents, the student, the regular classroom teacher and others who observe the child on a regular basis should assess the social interaction skills of the student to determine needs related to the visual impairment. This often is an area that is overlooked, particularly with students who have functional vision.
Independent Living: A Curriculum with adaptation for Students with Visual impairments: Volume I Social Competence, published by the Texas School for the Blind is an example of a criteria based assessment (as well as a curriculum) in Social Skills
Curriculum based assessment allows the teacher to determine easily where instruction should begin in this area.
