Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) mission is to ensure that
all people with hearing, speech, and language disorders have access to
quality services to help them communicate more effectively. On this
site, you will find information to help you understand communication
and communication disorders, as well as a referral service to help you
access qualified professionals. ASHA is a professional, scientific,
and credentialing association for audiologists, speech-language
pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists.
National Center for
Hearing Assessment and Management:

The goal of the National
Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) is to ensure that
all infants and toddlers with hearing loss are identified as early as
possible and provided with timely and appropriate audiological,
educational, and medical intervention. NCHAM provides information and
resources concerning the many issues of early hearing detection and
intervention.

Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs at the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

Maine has a cooperative agreement with the National CDC in Atlanta, and
receives funding from the CDC EHDI program. The goal of the EHDI program is
to encourage
universal screening of newborn children in order to identify those who
are at risk for hearing loss. This will allow infants to be properly
diagnosed and enrolled in an intervention program at the earliest
possible time. These intervention programs are designed to help
facilitate the development of visual and/or spoken language and the
growth of cognitive skills.

ChildLINK database integrates the information from different programs
within the Maine Center for Disease Control
and Prevention. This includes information from the State of Maine
Electronic Birth Certificate, the Newborn Hearing Screen, the Newborn
