Graduate Study in Early Intervention

Summer 2008 Course Schedule

Summer classes are now available for registration. You can download a registration form here: http://www.ccids.umaine.edu/interedu/gradei/starting/
howtoapply.htm under the heading "registering for an early intervention course". Regarding whether or not you need to get Sandy Doctoroff's signature to register please read the following carefully to determine which category you fall into:

  1. If you have received admission to the Graduate School for the master's degree you must send (via snail mail or attach the form to an e-mail) your registration form to me for my signature and I will send it on to the Graduate School.
  2. If you have not yet applied to the Graduate School or have not yet received admission, you do not need my signature and should send the registration form directly to the Graduate School.

SED 598: 001 Language and Literacy for Diverse Young Children

Time: 8 AM - 5 PM

Prerequisites: none

Please note: there are two classes listed under SED 598 with similar titles. You are to register for the class that is titled SED 598: 001 "Language and literacy for diverse young children" and not SED 598: 669.

SEI 512: 001 Inclusive Early Childhood Curriculum

CRN: 13685
Dates: May 24; June 7, 21; July 19; and Aug 7
Time: 8 AM - 5 PM except Aug 7th which will meet from 8 AM to 12 noon.
Location: Augusta - specific location: TBA
Instructor: Sandy Doctoroff
Prerequisites: students must have completed a minimum of 3 classes within the TOP program

Please note: This course includes a 30-hour field experience. Students will need to identify an appropriate field experience site. This should be a high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood group setting that includes young children with disabilities under age 6.

Registration

  1. Obtain Graduate Non-Degree status from the University of Maine Graduate School. You may download the form or apply on-line at http://www2.umaine.edu/graduate/article.php?id=63 . You may also contact the Graduate School by phone at (207) 581-3219 or e-mail: graduate@maine.maine.edu  and request the application.

  2. Please note prerequisites for courses. Students who do not meet required prerequisites will be asked to withdraw from the class. If there are any questions please contact Sandy Doctoroff, the course instructor (see contact information below).

  3. Complete a course registration form. The form may be obtained from the UM Graduate School or can be downloaded from http://www.ccids.umaine.edu/interedu/gradei/
    starting/howtoapply.htm (cursor down the page until you see “Registering for an Early Intervention Course”). Non-degree students should mail the registration form directly to the  UM Graduate School (address is listed on the form). Students who have been admitted to the UM Graduate School master's degree program must have their registration forms signed by their advisor (Dr. Doctoroff).

Textbooks

Textbooks may be purchased in person at the UM Bookstore, over the phone by calling 581-1700, or via the Internet by visiting the Bookstore’s website: http://www.bookstore.umaine.edu/. It is important to know the course number and names of the books when ordering.
