Welcome to the Growing Ideas Toolkit, a compilation of resources designed to
guide inclusive early childhood practices. In this
This toolkit was made possible by a collaboration of The University of Maine
Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies and Coastal Alliance for
Children’s Care Education and Supporting Services (ACCESS). Topics and content
were developed with input from Maine’s Network of Child Care Resource
Development Centers. Funding was provided from the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services Administration on Children, Youth, and Families Early Learning
Opportunities Act Grant, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, the
Maine Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, Administration on Developmental Disabilities.

The Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies is part of a National
Network of UCEDDs established by the Developmental Disabilities Act of 2000, and
sponsored by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services.
The Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies engages in a wide
range of activities related to early childhood including: graduate study in
early intervention; research, evaluation and policy analysis related to early
care and early education for all children; parent and professional education;
and materials development and dissemination. The Center for Community Inclusion
and Disability Studies Early Childhood Team is available to provide technical
assistance to early childhood and school settings, to help programs support all
