Early Childhood Special Education Faculty Position
(Assistant Research Professor)
The
Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies, in collaboration
with the College of Education and Human Development and the Maine
Department of Education, has been awarded a grant from the U.S.
Department of Education to implement graduate training in early
childhood special education with a focus on increasing the number and
quality of personnel who are fully credentialed to serve young children
with disabilities ages birth to five and their families.
The University of Maine, located in Orono, is
seeking a full-time faculty member. The successful applicant will have
advanced graduate training in early childhood special education (earned
doctorate preferred; ABD considered). Requirements include: (1)
experience working with infants and preschoolers with disabilities and
their families; (2) university teaching experience; (3) demonstrated
scholarship or potential for scholarship; (4) excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; (5) commitment to inclusive, family-centered
approaches to early intervention; and (6) grant writing/project
management skills. Appropriate background checks will be required.
Responsibilities include teaching; field
experience and practicum supervision; advising graduate students;
assisting in project coordination, evaluation, and dissemination
activities; and participation in other related research, evaluation, and
grant/project activities. This is a full-time academic year appointment
and reappointment is contingent upon external funding and satisfactory
job performance. Position start date is September 1, 2008.
